BEHIND THE BOOKS

Different worlds. A shared curiosity.

From distant planets and unexpected adventures to the challenges of leadership and the preservation of traditional martial arts, Topher Kaler's books explore the many ways people learn, adapt, and discover what's possible.

More about the author

Topher Kaler is a storyteller at heart—whether he's building next-generation technology, chronicling martial arts wisdom, or writing galaxy-spanning YA adventures. Across more than forty years in software, he has worked as a developer, architect, and program manager, with more than seventy-five patents and experience spanning low-level systems through large-scale cloud platforms.

His lifelong martial arts practice and research draws on traditions from Okinawa and Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, and the Philippines. He approaches techniques, forms, and lineages as living knowledge passed between generations, a perspective that informs both his teaching and his writing.

His science fiction blends mystery, science, and adventure, while his nonfiction explores leadership, systems thinking, and martial arts. Across these subjects, he values curiosity, learning, and stories that encourage readers to see new possibilities.

Topher also advocates for STEM education and the power of storytelling to connect people and ideas.
